My name is Gerrad I’m going to tell you a story about water python.
This story happened near the Lunggutja Island. It belongs to the Gupapuyŋu Birrkili people. The water python travelled from Numburindi which is around Numbulwar.
He travelled all the way to Lunggutja Island, three clan groups share one totem and that’s Maḏarrpa, Dhalwangu and Birrkili. From Numburindi the snake went to Baraltja, by his tongue he spat up into the sky, he sent a message that he’s going to leave Baraltja and start his journey again. The snake decided to travel all the way to Lunggutja Island, the place where he wants to rest in paradise.
Lunggutja is a beautiful island where the great Burrṯji lives in the sea called Mungurru. The water python stopped there at Lungutja because he found his home Galawu. Galawu is a special place for the python. From his tongue the lightning came out and the rain came out from nowhere then the lightning disappeared. After that the island was calm and beautiful because of the water python he changed everything, he turned the island to paradise like an unknown heaven.
