Yo my name is Chelsea and I’m a strong Aboringinal women who lives in Galiwinku Elcho Island.
My story that I’ve chosen is about a whale hunter.
This story is for Burarrwanga people and for Torres Strait islander people which is who i’m related to. That whale who hits the tree matjala was my totem but Burarrwanga people just dance and sing because they have to show how that story goes with the whale and the tree.
And now i’m gonna tell you the story about the whale hunter
A long long time ago there was a tree called matjala that was floating and visiting the homelands but one day the tree matjala came to visit our land Galiwinku. The Burarrwanga people looked at the tree matjala and called out to the others and said that tree came from nowhere but then they guessed it that it came the whale. They didn’t know who was it from because that tree came with a little bit a dirty then the Burarrwanga people dance and sing. The Burarrwanga people were just guessing that maybe whale hit that tree Matjala and it broke it into half and then they float to Galiwinku.
And thanks for listening to my story.
