Ŋalkanbuy

Hello my name is Gerrad garawirrtja I’m going to tell you a story about Ngalkanbuy. Ngalkanbuy is a special cliff with the maroon red ochre near the old clinic in Galiwinku elcho island and the old people gave a name of our clinic Ngalkanbuy, it has lots of maroon red ochre in that area and theres also saltwater down the at the cliff called balawurru or djatja where the Barracuda lives. It belongs to Ngaymil and Gondarra these two tribes owns that sacred area.

This picture shows where the Barracuda lives and the maroon red ochre spread into the sea and onto the rocks and also in this picture you can see the photo of the saltwater called balawurru.

I feel proud of this area because I’m related to this place, it belongs to my grandfather’s land. Three tribes share this land Garrawurra, Ngaymil and Gondarra.
